Fees and insurance.

Last updated September 30, 2026

How much therapy costs, how you pay, and how to claim it on insurance, so you know before you book.1 It's simpler than it sounds.

Fees

  • Free consultation: 20 minutes, no charge.
  • Individual therapy: $125 for a 50-minute session, online anywhere in Ontario or in person in Richmond Hill. There's no HST on psychotherapy.2
  • Letters, forms and reports: for example, a letter for school or work, or documents for a court case. Most clients never need one. They're charged at $125 an hour, for the time they take.1
  • A copy of your record: $30 for the first 20 pages, then 25 cents a page. The Privacy page explains how to ask.

When my registration changes, expected in 2027, the fee for new clients will rise to $150. If you start before then, you keep $125.

Paying

Sessions are paid by a card you keep on file, charged on the day of each session. The card is stored by Stripe, a payment processor. You can also pay by e-transfer if we arrange it ahead of time; it's paid before the session.

You'll get a receipt by email after each payment. It shows my name, title and registration number, the date and length of the session, and the amount, so you can claim it on insurance.3

Claiming on insurance

I don't bill insurers directly. You pay, then claim it back from your plan. Before your first session, check that your plan covers psychotherapy.

How to submit your therapy receipt

  1. After your session

    • Pay. Your card on file is charged on the day.
    • Get your receipt. It arrives by email, with the session details your insurer usually asks for.

  2. On your insurer's website or app

    • Find where to submit a claim. It may be listed under "health" or "paramedical".
    • Enter the details it asks for. The session details are on your receipt.
    • Upload your receipt, if it asks for one.
    • Submit.
  3. After you submit

    • Your insurer lets you know what it will pay back. Keep your receipts in case it asks for them later.

The receipt and screen are examples. Every insurer's site looks a little different, but the steps are usually similar.

If you get stuck

Not sure what to enter, or a claim didn't go through?

Email me or bring it up at your next session, and I'll help you work out what your insurer is asking for.

Please leave health details out of emails, since email isn't fully secure.

If a claim is refused, ask your insurer why. It may be that your plan doesn't cover this type of provider, or that you've reached this year's limit.

Insurance providers

Registered Psychotherapy is commonly included in workplace and student health plans. Plans from these providers often include it. Search for yours:

Common providers

  • Beneva
  • Canada Life
  • Desjardins
  • Equitable
  • Green Shield
  • Industrial Alliance
  • Manulife
  • Medavie Blue Cross
  • Sun Life
  • UV Insurance

Cancelling

To cancel or move a session at no charge, give at least 48 hours' notice. With less notice, or if you miss a session, the full session fee is charged.4 I'll waive that fee once every six months, no questions asked.
